Exotic species, New Zealand

We've had a request to show pictures of some of the exotic species that we're finding on our trip.  So here goes.

The birds have been the loveliest new animals we've seen.  The seagulls are not so different, but the tui and bellbird have a song unlike anything we've heard.  The pretty singers are just a little camera shy.
These are the main dairy cows in NZ.
Here's our first big insect encountered in the southern hemisphere.
I keep hoping to see some slugs since this is such a lush climate, fairly similar to Portland.  But there just haven't been any.  Here I am pointing to a spot where, by all rights, there should be a slug, but there isn't.
You can't go far in NZ without seeing some sheep.
